Rob de Man heeft sinds zijn promotie onderzoek naar de behandeling van chronische hepatitis B virus infecties veel onderzoek gedaan naar de optimalisatie van de behandelingsstrategie van chronische hepatitis B virus infecties. Daarnaast onderzoekt hij de optimalisatie van diagnostiek en behandeling van primaire levertumoren. Op het gebied van hepatitis C is hij actief in projecten rond opsporing en retrieval van HCV patiënten. Transnationale onderzoek richt zich op nieuwe behandelingsvormen van chronische hepatitis E infecties. Hij is voorzitter van de taskforce Beter Keten waarin in de regio Groot Rijnmond huisartsen, public health en ziekenhuizen de krachten bundelen gericht op de vijf pijlers van het nationaal hepatitis plan.
